Although there won’t be much music, we here at Zero Warning are stoked to debut the first edition of our zine at Saturday’s third annual Zine Fest at the Venture Compound in St. Pete. There will be some exclusive zine content you won’t be able read online.

Otherwise, here’s a rundown of what’s in store for local music this weekend:

Ybor City Rocks Music Festival

Gaspar’s Grotto and Ybor City Rocks Music Festival are partnering yet again for a two-day festival with three stages, 21 bands, six acoustic musicians and two DJ’s. There has been a weekly concert every Friday night for the last four months at Gaspar’s Grotto leading up to the festival. Local music superstore Paragon Music will be providing the sound, lighting and FX. There will be $3 Magic Hat, $4 Naked Turtle and nothing beats a free festival.

Local hip-hop artist Prince Golden of Samurai Shotgun and rapper/producer Hagan Lee out of Largo will be opening for national hip-hop giants Raekwon and Ghostface Killah at Janus. Prince Golden will have a solo EP dropping in February and Samurai Shotgun will have a second full-length dropping in March. Hagan Lee has also been releasing a new song from his Working Class Hero project on his Sound Cloud every Wednesday.

 

A Gentlemen Army & With Crows

Bradenton-based punk rock band A Gentleman Army and St. Pete locals With Crows will perform Friday night at the Local 662. Tom’s Ragdoll and Florida/Chicago punk band The Florida Rooms will also be performing. The Florida Rooms will finish up their mini-tour around the state at Friday’s show.

 

House of I EP Release Party

Experimental Rock Band House of I will be releasing their new EP. The band will also be raffling off free band shirts to anyone who confirms they’re going to the show on Facebook (link above) and who shares the show page. Local funk band Selectric, solo acoustic artist Kid Loki and Tampa-based soul band Jordan Esker will also be performing.

 

Plastic Pinks

Locals Sonic Graffiti, Archaic Interest and Funny Bunny will open for touring act Plastic Pinks out of Miami. Saturday’s show will be the first show outside of South Florida in 2015 for the garage pop five-piece. Sonic Graffiti also released a rad album this week, titled “Friendly Unit Creation Kit,” and has promised a second album release along with a U.S. tour in 2015.

A number of bands, some from as far as Boston, will be playing at The Goat House on Sunday. Ben Katzman’s Degreaser and surf rock trio The Jellyfish Brothers will both perform in addition to local bands Relief In Sleep, Terminus Cursus and Freshman Biology. Sunday’s Goat House show will be the final stop of Ben Katzman’s Degreaser’s and The Jelly Fish Brother’s Spread the Shred tour, which began earlier this month in Miami at BUFU Fest.

 

Raury

The Local 662 venue will also be hosting singer/songwriter/guitarist/rapper Raury to close out the weekend. Based out of Atlanta, Georgia, Raury was a featured artist on the BBC’s Sound of 2015. Raury’s raw, honest sound has won him the approval of big name artists like Lorde and fellow Atlanta-based musicians from Outkast. Sunday’s show is an extension of Raury’s Indigo Child Tour and will also feature opener Tay Jasper.
