The Weekend Rundown 1/30/15

HD8 (22 of 34)

Not only are there a bunch of local shows going on in the region this week, there’s also a bunch of really cool art shows happening. If you need to get out of the house this weekend, but maybe aren’t in to some of the bands we cover, here you go. No excuses.

Here’s your rundown for what’s going on in Tampa Bay this weekend:

Parquet Court, Merchandise & Soda
American Legion – Seminole Post 111 (Tampa)
Saturday, 8 p.m.
RSVP on Facebook

There’s an awesome show happening at the American Legion – Seminole Post 111 on Saturday. Parquet Courts (aka PCPC and Parkay Quarts) are making their way to Tampa after a tour that started last November in D.C. Tampa natives Merchandise and Soda, a noise rock trio out of Gainesville will open for Parquet Courts. Merchandise will be going on tour with the popular indie punk band Title Fight and just recently got off a tour in the U.K. Tickets are sold out, but an “extremely small” number of tickets will be sold at the door, so if you want to see this talent-packed lineup, get there early.

DarkHorse Saloon, The Dull Blades, Gino and the Goons
New World Brewery (Tampa)
Saturday, 9 p.m.
RSVP on Facebook

Gino and the Goons, a garage power-pop group out of St. Pete, will open for DarkHorse Saloon at New World Brewery on Saturday. DarkHorse Saloon makes some crazy heavy rock out in Jacksonville and have a new album in the works. Gino and the Goons are also planning to have a 10” LP out in the next few months through Lounge Records.

2015 Pre-INC Show
Venture Compound (St. Pete)
Free entry & parking
Saturday, 6 p.m.
RSVP on Facebook

The Venture Compound is hosting a pre-International Noise Conference on Super Bowl Sunday. Twenty-one bands will play 15 minute sets a piece starting at 6 p.m. While a number of awesome local noise artists are set to play, like Abstract Machines, Smith Lavender and Novasak to name a few, Noise artists will come in to St. Pete from as far away as Tallahassee and Miami.

PayUp! Game, Gatsby + More
The Bricks (Ybor)
Free show
Saturday, 10 p.m.
RSVP on Facebook

Hip Hop collective Pay Up! Game and experimental rapper Gatsby are going to be performing out at The Brick Saturday night. Locals Dessasore and Sunny Fritz will also be performing. The best part about this show (besides the great local artists) is that you get to see all these awesome people for free. Can’t be that.

Monarch, Poster, Shadynasty, Samurai Shotgun + More
Crowbar (Ybor)
$5-$8, All ages
Saturday, 8 p.m.
RSVP on Facebook

Last, but not least, Crowbar will host a mashup of some of the coolest local bands in every rock subgenre (and some of my personal favorites). The show will have everything from the easy going indie rock of Poster to thrashing noise punk of Mushmind. Rock band Monarch and post-hardcore band TRIALS out of Lakeland will also perform. Prog-rock hip-hop group Samurai Shotgun will round off the show, making sure there’s something for any rock fans taste.
