As someone who is always looking for great new bands and the next cool concert to attend, I was excited to see Orlando-based indie pop two-piece SALES make their Tampa debut at local record store and occasional concert venue Mojo Books & Records. Openers Soapbox Soliloquy and Luxury Mane filled out the bill and helped to make a great show all around.
Soapbox Soliloquy was a one-woman acoustic performance that would have fit right in at your everyday coffee shop, but stood out with her extremely distorted vocals and fits of aggressive guitar playing. Luxury Mane, a three-piece from St. Petersburg, brought the energy up by playing a distinct fusion of psychedelic rock and pop rock, like a livelier version of The Police.
By the time SALES was setting up, the venue was teeming with excited concertgoers ready to welcome the duo with open arms and nodding heads. Members Lauren Morgan and Jordan Shih played a set full of infectious pop tunes with hooks that still lingered in the heads of the audience even after the show was over.
Touring in support of their self-titled debut EP, SALES performed a majority of their discography, including their most buzzed-about singles, “Renee” and “Chinese New Year”. The two also played a few new songs that got the audience eager for their next release. Overall it was a very impressive show with wall-to-wall great bands and excellent music.
